With the impact of the global recession continuing to squeeze and reshape economies around the world, those working in the public sector face the challenging task of developing ever more innovative solutions to provide public services, often in the face of deep financial cuts.
This special international symposium, organised by the International Centre for Parliamentary Studies, provides a timely opportunity to explore the key challenges which the public sector faces at the beginning of the 21st century. In many countries, public expectations, advances in technology, and awareness of international best practice, present senior staff in the public sector with challenges that were unknown to their predecessors. Demographic change, trends in migration, and drives to make the public sector more efficient in terms of value for money all present challenges, which can potentially be turned into opportunities.
Over the two days, the symposium will present a high-level forum for senior civil servants and public officials from around the world to share their comparative experiences and to exchange ideas with experts and colleagues.
Through a series of presentations from leading figures, participants will have the opportunity to examine and consider some of the key issues involved.
The Symposium promises an internationally recognised line-up of leading figures and expert speakers who will offer an invaluable insight into the latest initiatives and developments in the field of public sector reform. As well as hearing key presentations, there are also ample opportunities for delegates to engage in interactive discussion and debate.
Examine in detail some of the issues and challenges facing policymakers:
The Symposium provides an invaluable opportunity to share best practice and network with speakers, practitioners and policymakers alike from across the world. Over 3½ hours of networking time is scheduled into the programme in order to support the exchange of ideas and encourage delegates to engage in thought-provoking topical debate.
